Webb's Tavern
Title
Webb's Tavern
Description
Description taken from back of photo: "Webb's Tavern, also known as the 'Old Washington House' from the tradition that Washington stopped here during one or more of his trips to New England. In front of this tavern in 1775, the Stamford patriots burned the 'Bohea tea.' The tavern occupied the site of the present (1943) Washington Building at the corner of West Main and Bank Streets. It was demolished in the later part of 1868." This is a photostat copy, made in 1941, of a picture in "Picturesque Stamford" p. 128, "an engraving made from a photograph taken a short time previous to its demolition."
