Warwick
Description
Old-time residents will remember with fond affection the steamer "Warwick" which was in the summer excursion business between New York City and Roton Point. This photograph was taken in 1912 when the "Warwick" was making ready to embark on the return trip to New York. The steamer "Ella" was perhaps the first ship in regular service on the run and was put in service in April 1860, carrying passengers and freight between Stamford and New York. Othe ships offering the same service came along later and included the side wheelers "Meta" "Shady Side" and the propellor-driven "Alert." This is the 57th in a series of Long-Stamford scenes.
