Title

Atlantic Street - 1908 Looking north

Description

Traffic was no problem on Atlantic Street back when this photograph was taken. The new building of the YMCA had just been completed after construction costs of $135,000 and the horse and trolley cars were still in their heyday. But gas buggies were gaining popularity. A city ordinance, one of the first in the country, limited autos to "12 miles an hour in Stamford and 15 outside."
