"Fitch's Home-Dining Room." Article: " We illustrate on this page the Home for Disabled Soldiers and the Orphan Children of such as have died in military service in defense of the country, which by the munificence of Mr. Benjamin Fitch, has been erected at Darien, Connecticut. From the beginning of the war (Amer. Civil War) Mr. Fitch has been interested in the cause for which our two millions of patriot soldiers have so bravely fought. At the first outbreak of rebellion, too old and infirm himself to shoulder the musket, and appreciating the tender anxiety of those who by going to the field must leave behind them wives and children, whom they might be leaving forever..."
