CONSTITUTION.
ARTICLE I. - NAME.
This Society shall be called the YouNG PEOPLE's SoCIETY OF CRRISTI.A.N ENDEAvoB of the METHODIST EPrscoPAL CHURCH, of Stamford, Conn .
ARTICLE IL - OBJECT.
Its object shall be to promot~ an earnest Christian
life among its members, to increase their mutual acquaintance, and make them more useful in the service
of God.
ARTICLE Hl. - MEllmEBSHIP.
1. The members shall consist of three classes, Active, Associate and Affiliated or Honorary.
2. Active Members. The Active Members of this
Society shall consist of all young persons who believe
themselves to be Christians, and who sincerely desire
to accomplish the results above specified. Voting powers shall be vested only in the Active Members.
3. Associate Members. All young persons of worthy
character may become As ociate Members of this Society. They shall have the special prayers and smypathy of the Active Members, but may be excu ed
from taking part in the prayer-meeting. It is expected that all Associate Members will habitually attend
the prayer-meetings, and that they will in time become
Active MRmbers and the Society will work to this end

4. Affiliated or Honorary Members*. All p ersons
who are interested in the Society and wish to have some
connection with it though they cannot r egularly attend
the meetings, may become Affiliated Members. Their
names sh all be kept upon the list under the appropriate
h eading. but sh all not bEi called at the r oll-call meeting.
It is understood that the Society m ay look to the Affiliated Memh ers for financial and m oral support in all
worthy efforts. For special class of H on orary Mem hers
see Article I X.
5. The different classes sh all become members upon
b eing elected by the Society, after carefully examinin g
the Constitution , anu upon signing their names to it,
thereby pledging themselves t o live up to its requirements.
ARTICLE IV .- OFFICERS.
1. The officers of this Society sh all be a President,
two Vice-Presidents, R ecording Secretary, Corresponding Secretary and Treasurer, who sh all be chosen from
am ong ·he Active Members of th e Society.
2. There shall also be a L ookout Committee, a
Prayer-Meeting Co mmittee, a Social Committee, and
such other committees as the local needs of each society
may require, each consisting of five Active Members.
There shall also be an E xecutive Committee as provided in Art. VI.
ARTICLE V. - DUTIES OF OFFICERS.
1. President. The President of the Society shall
perform the duties us ually pertaining t o that offi ce.

H e shall h ave especial watch over the interests of the
Society, sh all appoint the. committees, a.n d it sh all be
his duty to see that .th e di:ffer~nt comrmttees perform
the duties devolving upon them.

2. Vice-President. The Vice-Presidents sh all perform the duties of the President in his absence.
3. Conesponding Secretary. It shall be the ~u ty
of the Corresponding Secretary t? keep t~e local S oci~ ty
in communication with the Umted Society, and with
other local socieb es, and to present t o bis own Soc~ety
such matters of interest as may com e from th e Umted
Society, from other loc~l . societies and from other
authorized sources of Chnstian Endeavor.
4. R ecording Secretary. It shall be the duty of the
R ecordin g Secretary to k eep a record of the m embers,
and to correct it from time to tim e, as may be n ecessar y,
and to obtain the sign ature of each newlyelecte~ memb er to the Constitution· also to corresp ond with absent members, and info1:m th em of their stan ding i?the Society ; also to keep correct m innt~s of all bus1n e. s meetings of the Society ; also t o notify all perso:is
elected to office or to committees, and to do so m
writing if n ecessary.
5. Treasurer. It shall be the duty of the Treasurer
t o safely k eep all m onies belonging to the Society, and
t o p ay out only such sums as sh all b e voted by the
Society.

ARTICLE VI.-- DUTIES OF COMMITTEES.
l. L ookout Committee. It sh all be the dut y. of this
Committee t o bring n ew members into the Society, to
introduce them to the work, and to th e oth~r members,
and to affectionately look after and reclann_ an y that
seem indifferent to th eir duties. This Committ ee sh all
also, by p ersonal investigation, satisfy t hemselves of

the fitne s of young persons to become members of this
ociety, and ·hall propo e their names at any meeting
of the ociety.
2. Prayer Meeting Committee.
This Committ e
shall have in charge the prayer meeting; shall ee that
a topic i assigned and a lead r appointed for every
m eting, and shall do what it can to secure faithfulnes
to the prayer meeting pledge,

ocial Committee. It hall be the duty of this
ommittee to promote the socin.l intere ts of the Society,
by welcoming stranger to the meeting and by providing for the mutual acquaintance of the member by occa ional sociable , for which auy appropriate entertainment, of which the hurch a1 prove , may be provided.
4. Executive ommittee*. This Committee shall
consi t of the Pa tor of the church, the Officers of the
ociety and the chairmen of the variou committee .

this committee and not before the ociety. Recommendat10ns concerning the finances of the Society shall

5. Each Committee except the Executive, shall
make a report in wnting to the ociety at the monthly
bu iness meeting, concerning the work of the pa t
month.

ARTICLE VIL - THE PRAYER MEETING.
1. All the Active fembers shall at every meeting,
unless detained by some absolute neces ity, and ach
Active 'Iember shall take some part. however light, in
every meeting To the above all the Active M mbers

meeting shall be held one hour, and at the close, some
time may be taken for introduction and ocial intercour e, if del!ired.
2. Once each month a on ecration or Experience
lfeeting shall be held, at which each Active Member
shall speak concerning bis progr s in the Christian
life. If auy one choose , he can expre his feeling by
an appropriate ver e of cripture, or other quotation.
3. At each on ecration or Experience Me ting, the
roll hall be called, and 1he respon e of the Active
Member · who are present shall be con idered a a renewed expre ion of allegiance to Chri t. It i exp cted that, if any one is obliged to be ab ent from thi
meeting, he will send the r eason for such ab ence by
some one who attends.
4. If any Active member of thi Society i absent
from this monthly meeting and falls to send an excuse,
the L ookout Committee i xpected to take the name of
uch a one, and in a kind and brotherly pirit ascertain
the i·eason for the ab en e. If any Active Member of
the Society i absent and unexcused from three consecutive monthly meeting , uch a one ceases to be a
member of the 'ociety, and hi name shall be stricken
from the li t of me.m ber .

WITHDRAW.A.LS.

Any member who may wi ·h. to ";i~hdraw from the
ociety shall -tate the rea on m wntmg to the Lookout Committe and Pastor, and if these rea on seem
sufficient they may, by a two-thircls vote of tlie ociety,
be allowed to withdraw.
ARTI LE Xl. -

MISCELLA EOUS.

Any other Committee may be added and duties a sumed by this Society which in the future may seem
best.

BY-LAWS.
ARTI -LE

I.

This Society hall hold a prayer meeting on Sunday
evenil.ig of each week. The last regular prayer meetil1g of the month hall be a Con ecration or Experience
Meeting, at which. the i·oll shall be called.
ACTICLE II.
Other Committees may be added, according to the
needs of local ocieties, whose duties may be defined
as follows:THE SUNDAY SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

It shall be the duty of this Committee to endeavor to
bring into the Sunday- chool tho e who do not attend
el ewhere, and to co-operate with the Superint ndent
and officer of the school, in any ways which they may
ugge t for the b n efit of the Sunday- chool.
MUSIC COMMITTEE .

It hall be the duty of this ommittee to provide for
the . inging at the Youug People' w eting, and al o to
turn the mn ical abilit 1 of the Suciety to account, when
neces ary, al public reiigiou meeting .
FLOWER

OMMITTEE.

It hall be the duty of thi Committee to provide
flower for th pulpit, and to distribute them to the
id~ at the close of the abbath services.

ARTICLE III.
The election of Officers shall be held at the last business meeting in September and March. A Nominating
Committee shall b e appointed by the President, of
which the Pastor may be a member, ex-officio.

ARTICLE VI.
New membeTs shall sign the Constitution and B~­
Laws within two weeks from their election, to confirm
the vote of the Society.
ARTICLE VII.
Any who cannot accept the office to which they may
be elected shall notify the President in writing before
the n ext Bnsiness Meeting, at which the vacancy shall
be filled .
ARTICLE VIII.
The Lookollt Committee shall read the names of any
who may cease to be members.

ARTICLE IV.
All applicatiom for membership shall be made to the
Lookout Committee fOl' consideration. Names may be
proposed for m embership at the close of the Consecration Meeting, and sh all be voted on by the Society at
the following Business Meeting. The Lookout C0mmittee may also, in ordeT to satisfy itself of the Christian
character of the candidate, present to all candidates for
Active Membership, the following card to l>e signed:Trusting in the L ord J es us Christ for strength, I
promise Him that I will strive to do whatever He would
like t o have me do; that I will pray to Him and read
the Bible every day, and that, just so far as I know
h ow, throughout my whole life I will endeavor to lead
a Chri tian life. As an Active member I promise to be
true to all my duties . to be present at and to take sorue
part, aside from siuging, in every meeting unless hindered by some reason which I can conscientiously give
to my L ord and Master Jesus Christ. If obliged to be
absen t from the monthly consecration meeting, I will,
if possible, send an excuse for absence to the Society.

ARTICLE V.
P ersons who have forfeited their member hip maybe
re-admitted ou r ecommendation of the Lookout Committee and the Pastor, and a two-thirds vote of the
members at the regular Busiuess Meeting.

ARTICLE IX.
Cards of Dismission t o other Christian Endeavor Societies shall be given to wembers in good standing who
apply in writing to be released from their obligations to
t he Society. This release to take effect when th ey shall
become members of another Society; until then their
names shall be kept on the Absent List Members removin g to oth er places, or desiring to join other Christian Endeavor Societies in the same city or towu, are
rnquested to obtain Cards of Dismission and H.ecommendation within six months from the time of their
leaving, unless they shall give satisfactory r easons to
the :-lociety for their further delay. These cards shall
be good for six months on1y.
ARTICLE X.
Members who cannot meet with this Society for a time
are requested to obtain a Leave of Absence, which shall
be granted by the Society on recommendation of the
Lookout Committee and Pastor, and their names shall
be placed on the Absent List.

ARTICLE XI.
Ten members shall con titute a quorum.
ARTICLE XII.
The e By-Laws may be amended by a two-thirds vote
of the member pre ent, provided that notice of such
mendment i gi v n in writing, and i recorded by the
Secretary at lea t one week before the amendment i
acted upon.
